Settling points and key structural points are crucial features to understand when building a full log home. Each log home company uses different logs with varying degrees of moisture content. It is our job as a builder to understand what log package is being used and the requirements suggested for settling. We build the correct amount of space above window and door openings to allow for settling. Trim around these openings is installed to slide easily with any downward movement.
We also include “Settling Service” for your home at no cost. One year after construction we will inspect key points for excessive settling and adjust any king posts as necessary. We will also inspect windows and doors for smooth operation and adjust any trim. In general, this is the only time adjustments are required, at this point the logs should be completely acclimated and stable.
