In 1992, Gary and Karen Tenfel founded Custom Craft Carpentry out of a desire to build high quality log homes. The focus is to build mainly log homes, both half log and full log, but also to build additions for existing log homes. They have plenty of experience doing additions, recreation rooms, custom bars, as well as log home repairs.

Custom Craft Carpentry, Inc. builds 3 to 4 high quality custom log homes per year. Concentrating on one home at a time allows them to focus on all the personal details that are important to each owner. All the clients have enjoyed the individual attention this method provides such as discussing progress and changes directly with Gary at the site of their new home. He is on-site every day working with a small crew, not just stopping by to check on the progress. Playing an active role in building their home is essential to most log home enthusiasts.

Another important part of Custom Craft Carpentry is the relationships maintained with the subcontractors that perform some of the important jobs for the new home like foundation work, heating and cooling, plumbing, and electrical. They have worked hard as owners of the company to build solid ties with other companies to ensure excellent service during construction, competitive prices, and continued service after the home is complete. At times it is necessary to use other subcontractors due to distance or a homeowner’s request. When this is the case, the references and workmanship of the new company is verified to maintain the standard of high quality for your home.

As an independent builder, they have had the privilege of building homes from several companies such as Maple Island, Wilderness Log and Timber, Old Timer, Frontier, and Stevens Point log homes. They enjoy the challenge and diversity offered with each new home and log home company. The tools and equipment the company has allows for as much customization as you would need. Including a portable sawmill with a special set up that will handle full logs or half logs for important cuts.

We have an extensive client list and business/contractor list of references available by request for your information. Some clients are happy to show off their home, and others are very willing to share their experiences building with Custom Craft Carpentry, Inc.
